Anthony Surace died on June 18, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and resided there for 40 years before moving to Garfield in 1968. He served six years in the Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Nabisco in Fair Lawn for 30 years and at the age of 72 he was a clerk at Spencer Savings and Loan in Garfield for 10 years. Mr. Surace was a Past Commander and Life Member of the Garfield VFW Post 2867, a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Garfield and member of the Holy Name Society. He was predeceased by his wife Helen in 1983, his brothers Daniel and Bruno, and his sisters, Carmela Versace, Theresa Meli, and Gloria Flanagan. He had two beloved daughters, Rose Ann La Vecchia and husband Rick and Caroline Surace. He had one brother, Rocco Surace and three sisters, Rosemarie Cardone, Mary Buchell and Florence Sferlazza. He was a grandfather to Samantha, Ricky and Nicholas. Funeral arrangements were throught Aloia Funeral Home and the mass was held at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Garfield. Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi.
